Despite mineral oil's association with petroleum and the hype that it is bad for skin, keep in mind that petroleum is a natural ingredient derived from the earth and that once it becomes mineral oil, it has no resemblance to the original petroleum. grade mineral oil and petrolatum are considered the safest, most nonirritating moisturizing ingredients ever found ( Cosmetics & Toiletries, January 2001, page 79; and Cosmetic Dermatology, September 2000, pages 44 6).

Coal, mainly in power stations, covers about one quarter of our energy needs, but its use has declined since we have used more oil. Coal is the least efficient, unhealthiest and most environmentally damaging fossil fuel. New, there is probably about five times as much coal as oil. Oil Petroleum (derived from oil) provides around 40% of the world’s energy needs, mainly for cars. The US consumes around a quarter of all oil and generates a similar proportion of greenhouse gas emissions.

Adjust your diet. If you cut cholesterol and animal fats, you will also cut your risk, advises Frank Barry, M.D., a family practice physician in Colorado Springs and author of Make the Change for a Healthy Heart. You increase the effects of insulin resistance and diabetes (both of which speed up hardening of the arteries) if you consume a lot of polyunsaturated oils, such as corn, safflower, and sunflower oils. Monounsaturated fats, such as olive and canola oils, provide a healthy alternative.
